This addition elevates the low-cost airline into the ranks of mid-sized carriers and makes it the second such airline headquartered in Chongqing.
"The expansion of our fleet to 50 aircraft marks a significant leap in West Air's overall operational capabilities, route network coverage, and strategic value," said Wang Ke, chairman of West Air, during a ceremony later in the day.

The expansion underscores the airliner's commitment to establishing a robust presence in Chongqing and contributing to the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

In conjunction with this milestone, West Air inaugurated its first direct passenger flight from Chongqing to Yangon, Myanmar, on Dec 8. This new route completes Chongqing's air connectivity with all Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership countries.

The company said it plans to deepen its backbone network to support regional development and bolster Chongqing's role as an aviation hub. Internationally, it aims to enhance connections with RCEP member countries by prioritizing the establishment of routes to underserved destinations. Plans are also in place to increase the frequency of existing routes.
