The animated feature film "Ne Zha 2" broke the box office records, earning over 6.25 billion yuan ($857.91 million) as of 10:00 on Feb 7.
As the film booms, the related goods of "Ne Zha 2" have also become "hot", and some popular goods have even sold out, ThePaper reported on Thursday.
The animated film has planned and launched a wide range of derivative products, including trading cards, stationery, badges, publications, toys and daily essentials.
On crowdfunding platforms, the film's co-branded figurines have exceeded their funding goal of 100,000 yuan, raising a total of 12.07 million yuan.
Animation films have a strong appeal in both domestic and global markets.
"Animated films appeal to a wider audience and are more readily accepted than live-action films," Song Lei from China ACG Group, told Securities Daily.
Zhang Shuna, assistant general manager of Shanghai Film Co Ltd, a leading film company holding a vast portfolio of animated IP, highlighted four key aspects to the Securities Daily:
"First, animated films attract a wider audience, including children, teenagers, and adults. Second, they offer diverse commercial opportunities, such as collaborations on toys, blind boxes, apparel and video games."
"Third, the commercial lifecycle is longer, with IP influence capable of lasting for years. Fourth, animated films are more likely to succeed internationally, easily overcoming cultural and language barriers," said Zhang.
