On February 20th, Terminal 5 of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport commenced operations. It represents the airport construction project with the largest investment, the greatest building scale, and the most intricate technology in Northwest China to date. As the region’s premier aviation hub, the launch of Terminal 5 signals that the development of Xi’an’s international aviation hub has stepped into a new phase.
2月20日，目前西北地区投资规模最大、建筑体量最大、技术最为复杂的机场建设工程——西安咸阳国际机场T5航站楼投运。作为西北地区最大的航空枢纽，T5航站楼的投运标志着西安国际航空枢纽建设迈入新阶段。
Green Design and Build 绿色建造
The design and construction of Terminal 5 adheres to the concept of green and low-carbon development. In the architectural design, new energy - saving technologies are comprehensively employed, such as natural lighting, natural ventilation, ice storage cooling, and distributed air supply. Efforts are actively made to promote the green and low - carbon transformation of the airports energy system. With energy conservation as the top priority, the utilization of renewable energy sources like photovoltaics and geothermal energy is popularized. There is also an active exploration of the recycling of construction waste in the field of airport construction. The concrete from the decommissioned runways is reused in the airports expansion project, creating a unique runway - stone floor and achieving 100% utilization of waste materials.
T5航站楼的设计和建设秉持绿色低碳理念，在建筑设计中综合运用自然采光、自然通风、冰蓄冷、分布式送风等节能新技术；积极推动机场能源体系绿色低碳转型，坚持节能优先，推广光伏、地热等可再生能源利用；积极探索机场建设领域建筑垃圾的再生利用，使废弃跑道的混凝土在机场扩建工程中加以利用，形成了特有的跑道石地面，实现废旧材料的百分之百利用。
Intelligent service智能服务
Terminal 5 offers passengers a full - process intelligent boarding service. The average processing time for luggage from the check-in counter to the departure carousel is about 7 minutes, and the fastest time is only 5 minutes and 18 seconds. Intelligent service robots, smart toilets, etc. are also set up here; Terminal 5 adopts a functional process organization with double - level departures and double - level arrivals, and the walking distance from the center of the terminal to the farthest boarding gate is no more than 600 meters, and the walking time is less than 8 minutes, providing passengers with a more comfortable, convenient and efficient travel experience.
T5航站楼为旅客提供了全程智能化登机服务，行李从值机柜台到出港转盘平均处理时间约为7分钟，最快仅需5分18秒；这里还设置了智能服务机器人、智能洗手间等；T5航站楼采用双层出发、双层到达的功能流程组织，旅客从航站楼中心到达最远端登机口的步行距离不超过600米，步行时间仅需不到8分钟，为旅客提供更加舒适、便捷、高效的出行体验。
Cultural relics and culture文化文物
Notably, on February 26th, the Western Airport Museum, the world’s first in - situ cultural relic exhibition museum at an airport, opened to the public. The total area of the museum is 6,400 square meters, and the cultural relics on display are mainly cultural relics unearthed from the previous construction of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport.
值得关注的是，作为全球机场首家在地文物展示博物馆——西部机场博物馆2月26日面向公众开放。博物馆总面积6400平方米，展出的文物以西安咸阳国际机场历次建设出土的文物为主。
The museum as a whole consists of a basic exhibition hall (the Sifang Hall), a thematic exhibition hall (the Treasure Hall), a temporary exhibition area, and a flagship store for cultural and creative products.
博物馆整体包含基本陈列展览(四方馆)、专题陈列展览(珍宝馆)、临时陈列展览和文创旗舰店。
The Treasure Hall will adopt a rotating exhibition method, carefully selecting one representative cultural relic from Shaanxi for display every six months. The first exhibition features the Qin Gong Bo, a national first - level cultural relic and a gem among the bronze ritual vessels from the Spring and Autumn Period.
珍宝馆将采用轮展方式，每半年精选一件陕西代表性文物进行展出，首展推出了国家一级文物春秋时期青铜礼器的瑰宝——秦公镈。
From June 2020 to October 2022, during the third-phase expansion project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology excavated 6,848 ancient cultural relic sites, including 4,093 ancient tombs, 2,755 ancient sites such as pottery kilns, ash pits, ditches, roads, etc., and unearthed more than 22,000 pieces (sets) of cultural relics.
2020年6月至2022年10月，西安咸阳国际机场三期扩建工程期间，陕西省考古研究院发掘出各类古代文化遗迹6848处，包括古代墓葬4093座，陶窑、灰坑、围沟、道路等古遗址2755处，出土文物2.2万余件（组）。
The museum is open for visits from Tuesday to Sunday every week. It is closed for renovation on Mondays (except for national legal holidays) and the entire day of Chinese New Year’s Eve. The opening hours are from 09:00 to 19:00 (entry stops at 18:30). Tickets for the next three days will be updated at 00:00 every day (the reservation channel will open at 00:00 on February 23rd, 2025), and passengers can make reservations as needed.
博物馆每周二至周日开放参观，每周一（国家法定节假日除外）及除夕全天闭馆整修。开放时间为09:00-19:00（18:30停止入馆）。每日00:00整点更新3天内门票（2025年2月23日00:00起开放预约渠道），旅客可按需预约。
The operation of Terminal 5 has not only injected modern vitality into Xi’an, this ancient capital with a history of thousands of years, but also brought unprecedented development opportunities to Shaanxi’s transportation economy. In the future, upon the completion of the third - phase expansion project of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, the airport will be able to handle an annual passenger throughput of 83 million and a cargo and mail throughput of 1 million tons. It will become a comprehensive transportation hub integrating various modes of transportation such as aviation, rail, and road.
T5航站楼的投运，不仅为西安这座千年古都注入了现代化活力，也为陕西的交通经济带来了前所未有的发展机遇。未来，随着西安咸阳国际机场三期扩建工程的完工，西安咸阳国际机场可满足年旅客吞吐量8300万人次、货邮吞吐量100万吨，成为集航空、轨道、公路等多种交通方式于一体的综合交通枢纽。
