The 3rd Sci-Fi Planet Competition is now open for global submissions from sci-fi enterprises, academic institutions, teams and individuals, announced the organizer recently.
As China's first self-initiated international comprehensive sci-fi competition, it conducts annual evaluations with a prize pool of 6.65 million yuan ($917,800) to support and encourage sci-fi-related companies in developing new technologies, new scenarios and new applications, thus providing a strong impetus for the high-quality development of the sci-fi industry.
The competition features three main categories — Sci-Fi Technology, Sci-Fi Literature and Sci-Fi IP — across nine tracks.
The submission period runs from now until Feb 7, and the competition will select nine champions and five incubation projects, with a total prize pool of 6.65 million yuan. The prize for each category can reach up to 1 million yuan.
The competition adopts an open submission process. Applicants can submit their projects via the "Sci-Fi Planet Competition" public account or the official website (www.sfpaward.com).
After the submission period, the review committee will independently conduct evaluations, and the winners will be announced at the opening ceremony of the 9th China Science Fiction Convention in 2025.
The China Science Fiction Convention, initiated by the China Association for Science and Technology, has successfully held eight editions since its inception in 2016.
Since 2020, CAST has partnered with the Beijing municipal government, organizing the event annually in the Shijingshan district for three consecutive years.
In 2023, the convention became a part of the "Zhongguancun Forum", a national-level science and technology forum parallel session, highlighting the crucial role of science fiction in driving technological innovation.
As a core component of the convention, the Sci-Fi Planet Competition provides a platform for showcasing and exchanging ideas within the domestic and international sci-fi industry, serving to promote technological innovation, foster industry dialogue, and enhance the influence of the industry.
