Chinese police have captured a person surnamed Yan who is suspected of involvement in cases where Chinese citizens have fallen into false imprisonment after being deceived into travelling to the Thailand-Myanmar border.
The Ministry of Public Security, which revealed the capture in a news release on Sunday night, said it had deployed a working group abroad to solve the cases.
With assistance from Thailand's law enforcement departments, the working group and the Chinese Embassy in Thailand made efforts to capture and return Yan to China on Saturday, the ministry said.
Yan is suspected of deceiving actor Wang Xing into going to Myanmar for a supposed film shoot. Wang went missing at the Thailand-Myanmar border after arriving in Thailand on Jan 3 and was rescued by Thai police on Jan 7, before returning to China on Jan 11.
The ministry said it will keep up efforts to crack down on telecommunications and cyberspace fraud, deepen international law enforcement, hunt down suspects and rescue people who are trapped.
It reminded the public once again to stay highly vigilant against offers of high-paying jobs overseas, to avoid falling victim.
