The musical NE ZHA premiered at the Shaw Theatre in London recently, bringing one of China’s most beloved mythological stories — that of a child hero who dares to challenge fate — to the contemporary musical stage.
“We don’t normally have stories like this to frame Chinese or East Asian characters in such a heroic way. So, it is a real privilege to be able to bring a Chinese superpower to the stage,” said Jennifer Tang, the director of the musical.
