The Ministry of Education has announced a list of 15 tertiary institutions that have received approval for establishment or renaming, with a notable addition being a new public college dedicated to cyberspace security.
According to a notice issued by the ministry on Sunday, the approvals were made following deliberations at a ministry meeting and in accordance with China's higher education laws and relevant regulations.
A key highlight of the list is the establishment of the cyberspace security college. The new public institution, sponsored by the government of Wuhan, Hubei province, is positioned as a high-level, application-oriented university with a focus on cybersecurity.
Other significant changes on the list include the renaming of several existing institutions. North China Institute of Science and Technology and the Institute of Disaster Prevention, both located in Hebei province, will merge and be renamed the University of Emergency Management.
The university is the nation's first to be named "emergency management". It is being established by the Ministry of Emergency Management and is located in Yanjiao, Langfang, adjacent to the Beijing municipal administrative center.
The list includes a total of nine newly established institutions, including seven public universities and two private ones.
