On the plains of Ol Pejeta Conservancy in central Kenya, about 200 kilometers northeast of the capital Nairobi, Fatu and Najin, the world's only remaining northern white rhinos, represent a species on the brink of extinction — yet they are also the face of one of the most ambitious conservation efforts in history.

With no male northern white rhino, the only bridge between survival and extinction is science, technology and the unwavering commitment of a global team of veterinarians, conservationists, and reproductive biologists.

Nevertheless, there are high hopes of welcoming a northern white rhino calf by 2028, depending on the successes that will be achieved at the current stage.
