Hohhot is hosting an unprecedented New Year's celebration this winter, with a multi-day, city-wide feast of culture, sports, tourism, and commerce under the theme "Hohhot is so HOT: Citywide New Year Celebration" from Dec 27, 2025 to Jan 3, 2026.
For the first time, the event will feature the Winter Olympics spin-off mascot "Madundun" returning to Hohhot, while the mascots "Xiyangyang" and "Lerongrong", inspired by the Chinese white dolphin, will make their debut in the city.
The celebration introduces three innovative themed routes: a 6.2-kilometer historical and cultural axis connecting nine sites, including Dazhao Square; a modern cultural axis of the same length that runs along Silk Road Avenue and covers seven sites, including the Hohhot Sculpture Museum; and a 4.2-km trendy route that focuses on shopping areas like MixC, attracting young people to participate.
The city will also offer unique projects centered on "the trendiest, the most fireworks, the most technological, the most fashionable, and the most rock and roll". The Daheihe Military Cultural Park highlights the fifth Happy Ice and Snow Festival with ice sculptures, iron flower performances, penguin parades, and specialty foods. The Chuluchuan grassland will feature song and dance performances, drone shows, and fireworks displays, while Yili Health Valley will offer immersive experiences blending technology and health. The MixC shopping area will lead fashion trends with creative photo spots and DJ music parties, whereas the National Northern Football Training Base will host Zheng Jun's "The Road of Joy" concert.
Hohhot is also set to offer a variety of citywide activities that cater to different age groups, preserving Hohhot's cultural heritage while incorporating contemporary elements.
