Construction on the Shiziyang Bridge in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area reached a milestone on Friday with the installation of its first steel beam. It is the first of many that will one day hold together the world's tallest double-deck suspension bridge.
At 2,180 meters long, the main span of the Shiziyang Bridge is a critical component of the Shiziyang Link, itself a massive cross-sea, multi-layer highway project connecting the eastern and western banks of the Pearl River.
Once completed, the bridge will set five world records for double-deck suspension bridges in terms of main span length, main tower height, anchor foundation size, main cable scale and number of lanes.

According to Guangdong Transportation Group Co, it will employ a double-deck steel truss suspension design to achieve a single-span crossing the river.
The bridge's main tower is to be a portal tower structure standing 342 meters tall, equivalent to the height of a 110-story building.
Starting from Dagang township in Guangzhou's Nansha district and ending in Humen township of Dongguan, the Shiziyang Link will be approximately 35 kilometers long, including the main bridge across the river and the shore approach sections.
When completed and opened to traffic, the Shiziyang Link will help form a cross-sea and cross-river passage network in the Greater Bay Area, contributing to the establishment of a one-hour transportation circle.
