ATHENS -- Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reshuffled his cabinet, a government spokesperson announced on Friday.
Key portfolios, such as foreign minister and defense minister, remained unchanged, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said in a televised statement on the Greek national broadcaster ERT.
Outgoing Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis was appointed as finance minister, replacing Kostis Hatzidakis, who was appointed as deputy prime minister.
Sofia Zacharaki, who previously served as minister of social cohesion and family, took over as minister of education, religious affairs and sports. Her former position will be assumed by Domna Michailidou, who has held various cabinet posts in the past.
Christos Dimas, who has also served in ministerial positions before, was appointed minister of infrastructure and transport.
A changing of the guard also took place at the Ministry of Migration and Asylum Policy, the Environment and Energy Ministry and the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry.
The new cabinet will be sworn in on Saturday.
The shake-up came after the government survived a censure motion in parliament last week over its handling of a deadly train accident two years ago, which was partly attributed to chronic safety failures in the railway network.
The current government's term will end in June 2027.
