With the gradual warming of the weather in Central China's Henan province, winter wheat has steadily entered its greening period and the busy season of spring irrigation and fertilizing has arrived for farmers.
A radiant smile came to the face of farmer Liu Ailu as he happily watched gurgling water flow into his wheat fields in Luoquan village, saying: "The water came just in time, as the wheat seedlings have been 'thirsty' for a winter and can now 'drink' water to quench their thirst."
In the greening period, irrigation is a crucial part of a good harvest, said Liu, a farmer in Linzhou administered by the prefecture-level city of Anyang.
For areas bordering the Red Flag Canal, a local lifeline, crops normally produce a good harvest every year. But for areas lacking surface water, it is vital to rely on deep-well irrigation, he said, adding that it is essential for farmers to get sufficient power supply for spring plowing and irrigation equipment and facilities.
Employees from State Grid Linzhou Power Supply Co have bolstered their maintenance and emergency repair work to ensure ample power supply and safeguard spring plowing and irrigation.
The city of Linzhou has a population of 1.16 million living in 1,747 natural villages, and spring is a busy season for power company employees, said power worker Feng Haiqing.
The power company employees inspected over 200 well facilities and eliminated three hidden equipment dangers on-site, making spring irrigation progress smoothly, he said.
