On Nov 14, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co Ltd conducted an emergency drill for the 2024 rain and snow freeze disaster in Suqian, ensuring comprehensive preparations for responding to potential power grid disruptions caused by such weather conditions this winter and next spring.
This drill is divided into four stages: monitoring and early warning, early warning response, emergency response and handling and emergency conclusion. Nine drills have been set up, including monitoring and early warning issuance, early warning response actions, special patrols for transmission emergency response, transmission de-icing and defrosting, substation equipment de-icing and distribution line de-icing, among others.
The simulation portrays a scenario where northern Jiangsu experienced a severe cold wave with rain, snow, and freezing weather from Jan 10 to 12, 2025. This weather event caused icing and fluttering on power grids, leading to the tripping of multiple transmission and distribution lines and power loss in some substations.
Through the drill, the early warning action, emergency response and collaborative disposal capabilities of all departments and units of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power were further tested to prepare for the arrival and aftermath of rain, snow and freezing disasters, effectively enhancing the emergency response ability of Jiangsu power grid against ice and galloping.
