China supports the Gaza reconstruction plan endorsed at the 20th Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Council of Foreign Ministers, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Wednesday.
The plan, proposed by Egypt, was endorsed during the session held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, and aims to ensure the 2.1 million Palestinians living in Gaza can remain there, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Reiterating Foreign Minister Wang Yi's support for the plan, Mao said China always supports the legitimate concerns and just positions of Arab and Islamic countries.
China always believes that the post-war governance of Gaza should follow the principle of "the Palestinian people governing Palestine", and that the Palestinians should be allowed to reconstruct their homes in their own territory, Mao said.
The Palestinian question must be addressed through the two-state solution eventually, Mao stated, adding that China will continue to work with the international community toward this end.
