China has emphasized the importance of upholding fairness and justice and rejecting double or multiple standards to improve the global human rights governance.

Any attempts to impose one's own model or preferences on others and to politicize, instrumentalize, or weaponize human rights should be opposed, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday when addressing the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in a video speech.

Wang elaborated on China's key proposals for upholding the correct view of human rights and promoting the reform and improvement of global human rights governance.

It is essential to uphold a people-centered approach, he said, while calling on resolutely saying no to any attempt to interfere in other countries' internal affairs under the pretext of human rights and disregard national sovereignty and security as well as the well-being of ordinary people.

"It is imperative to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect while effectively enhancing the representation and voice of Global South countries," he said.

With a more proactive and dynamic approach, China will participate in international human rights cooperation and work with all parties to create a brighter future for global human rights, Wang added.

"The Human Rights Council should not be turned into a venue for pressure and confrontation," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday at a daily news briefing.

He noted that countries in the world share the common expectation that paths they have chosen for human rights protection will be respected, that human rights causes are better advanced and that people will enjoy more comprehensive and improved human rights.

China stands ready to work with all parties to build broad consensus and strengthen solidarity and cooperation to promote the building of a fairer, more reasonable, and inclusive global human rights governance system, Lin added.
