Beibei district in Southwest China's Chongqing hosted a culture and arts festival on Sunday to celebrate the blooming season of the wintersweet, also known as chimonanthus. The flower is a characteristic flora of the municipality.
The district's Suxin village hosted the 8th Jingguan Cup Traditional Flower Arrangement Competition as part of the festivities. Competitors showcased the intricate aesthetics of Eastern floral design through chimonanthus arrangements.

One of the event's purposes is to increase local collaboration between agriculture, culture, and tourism. The opening ceremony showcased 36 projects in flower cultivation, facility agriculture, leisure agriculture, and food processing. Three thematic rural tours were also introduced.
Later in the day, the district also commenced a conference on the Sichuan-Chongqing floriculture industry development, featuring expert discussions on chimonanthus breeding and the integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.
According to the sponsors, the festival will run until Spring Festival in February. It includes performances, a local crafts and delicacy market, and visits to the local Chinese Chimonanthus Expo Park.

Beibei boasts a history of over 500 years in chimonanthus cultivation, which thrives in the subtropical climate. The Jingguan Suxin Chimonanthus, a rare variant, is renowned for its unique characteristics and superior essential oils, said to offer benefits like improved circulation and calming effects.
Local authorities said the region has established a comprehensive chimonanthus industry chain, encompassing breeding, cultivation, processing, sales, and tourism.
