The southwestern municipality of Chongqing issued a red alert for high temperatures each day since Tuesday, as heat in some parts of the city reached as high as 40 C.

In recent years, Chongqing has seen an average summer temperature of around 37 C, with a record reaching up to 45 C in the city's Beibei district during the summer of 2022.

In response, a vibrant summer carnival blending music with water-based amusements kicked off in the scenic spot earlier this month.
