The Joint Laboratory of China-Morocco Green Energy and Advanced Materials was established in El Jadida, Morocco on Friday, aiming to promote the application of related technological achievements in Morocco and across Africa.

The lab was jointly established by State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company, Xi'an University of Technology, Shandong University and Chouaib Doukkali University in Morocco.

Although Morocco boasts abundant resources in solar and wind energy, renewable energy still represents a limited proportion of the overall energy structure and the pace of energy transition remains relatively slow, particularly facing challenges in infrastructure development and technology integration, according to a statement from the company.

With China's technological expertise and industrial advantages in green energy and advanced materials, the collaboration between the two countries hold immense potential.

The lab will focus on the efficient utilization of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, as well as the research and development of advanced technologies including new intelligent sensing techniques and energy storage science, it said.

State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company will establish a research team to focus on monitoring the insulation aging status of photovoltaic systems under extreme climatic conditions and modeling the insulation aging lifespan of photovoltaic systems, according to the company.

The team will also implement comprehensive monitoring, fault prediction, and energy consumption management of new energy and energy storage systems through the use of fiber optic sensors, intelligent analysis and monitoring algorithms.

The lab will engage in technical training and talent development to cultivate high-quality scientific talents for Morocco and other African countries, it said.

Furthermore, the advanced technologies and products developed by the lab will be applied to the economic and social development of African countries, assisting in addressing issues such as energy shortages and environmental pollution.
