The 2024 Hainan International Intellectual Property Trade Conference has concluded with a contract value of 3.24 billion yuan ($440 million).
Themed "Protects Innovation, Links Creation," the event, held in Haikou, Hainan province from Dec 20 to 22, offered an international platform for professionals in the global intellectual property field to exchange ideas and foster collaboration, driving the transformation and application of intellectual property while exploring innovative partnership opportunities.
"The conference and its affiliated exhibition stand out from many others we've attended before. While the previous events focused more on product transactions, this one places a stronger emphasis on creativity, knowledge and intelligence," said He Qing, chairman of Shanghai Aican Robot (Group) Co.
A highlight of the conference was the signing of a patent technology transfer agreement worth 3 billion yuan between Shanghai Aican Robot (Group) Co and Beijing DreamLands Investment Management Co. The agreement involved over 600 patents related to the cooking robot series named "Taste Recorder".
After 16 years of technological innovation, the "Taste Recorder" can record, store, reproduce and share taste information during the cooking process. It is equipped with a powerful smoke treatment function that significantly reduces oil fume emissions, addressing environmental issues caused by urban kitchen fumes.
He mentioned that the contract involves the local production and manufacturing of the "Taste Recorder" in Hainan province. "For the first phase of the project, we plan to have a production capacity of around 10 million units of the devices. The production base alone is expected to create 20,000 to 30,000 job opportunities. Once the products are manufactured, the generated sales revenue is projected to reach the trillion-yuan level."

Hainan University, one of the conference's organizers, introduced 16 new agricultural varieties with distinctive Hainan characteristics, including the renowned avocado variety Haida No 1.
Liu Guanbing, vice-president of the Hainan Free Trade Port Intellectual Property Court, emphasized that the high-quality development of the free trade port relies on robust intellectual property protection and application. He stressed the importance of aligning with international high-standard intellectual property protection rules to enhance judicial protection of intellectual property rights, which is crucial for supporting the development of new quality productive forces in the strategic sectors of the Hainan FTP.
