A wild boar bit an elderly woman to death in her house in Langao county of Ankang city, Shaanxi province, on Sunday morning, according to a Monday report from Beijing News.
A surveillance video showed the woman stepping into her yard to investigate a noise. The wild boar knocked her over and mauled her to death.
The boar had been chased to the vicinity of her house by hound dogs belonging to a boar hunting team, according to an anonymous person from Huangxing village, where she lived, as Beijing News reported.
Local officials told Dahe News on Monday that the police are investigating whether the wild animal entered the house by accident or was driven there by the hunting team.
There have been other wild boar attacks in Ankang in recent years. The city's forestry and grassland administration designated Langao and Shiquan counties as pilot areas for wild boar hazard prevention and control in 2021, according to a statement from the city government website. Hunting teams were recruited to manipulate the wild boar population and minimize relevant harm with assistance from hunting dogs.
Since 2021, over 1,700 wild boars have been captured in the region, with 113 caught this year alone, data from the administration showed.
