Beijing's tourism landscape is evolving, with various landmarks transforming into teeming destinations that transcend memories.

Why not plan a visit?

In winter, you can admire the ancient architecture of Wanping town and enjoy the festive winter market in Zhangjiawan town.

In spring and summer, paddling or cruising along the Liangma River and exploring the Universal Beijing Resort are among the city's most popular activities.

The accompanying video showcases the exciting transformations these areas have undergone.

Wanping town in Beijing's Fengtai district reopened parts of its ancient fortifications to the public last September following extensive renovations. This town is historically significant as the site of the July 7 Incident at Lugou Bridge in 1937, which is remembered as the start of China's full-scale action during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931–45). The restoration has renewed interest in this historic site, particularly with the upcoming Spring Festival.

Zhangjiawan town is celebrated for its historical commercial influence due to the Grand Canal connecting Beijing and Hangzhou. It is a winter hotspot for Spring Festival shopping.

Today, Zhangjiawan is a prized destination in Tongzhou district, Beijing's sub-administrative center. It is home to the Universal Beijing Resort and the recently opened Wanli Shopping Mall, one of Asia's largest shopping centers.

The Liangma River, once heavily polluted, has been transformed into a picturesque destination for cycling and evening cruises, attracting numerous visitors in the warmer months.
