In Juancheng county, Shandong province, farmer Zhang Shiqin, who has limited mobility, was grateful to receive a free medical diagnosis in his home village of Shenkou, Yanshi town.

On Feb 24, the Yanshi township central hospital organized a "Free Diagnosis of Health into Rural Areas and Offer a Warm-hearted Service for Farmers" initiative. Hospital staff visited various villages, providing free medical examinations directly at farmers' doorsteps.

The event aligns with China's 2025 "No 1 central document", released on Feb 23, which outlines its priorities in deepening rural reforms and takes solid steps to advance all-around rural vitalization. It emphasizes improving the service capacity of township central hospitals and bolstering the construction of a telemedicine service system.

During a visit to Shenkou village, a doctor surnamed Li measured Zhang's blood pressure and kindly advised him, "Grandpa, your blood pressure is a bit high. You should stick to a light diet, take your medicine on time and have regular check-ups."

Zhang, deeply appreciative, responded, "Due to my mobility issues, it's difficult for me to go to a hospital. Now the doctors are coming to see me. Thank you so much!"

The initiative primarily targeted elderly individuals with limited mobility, persons with disabilities and those with chronic diseases. The medical team, comprising doctors from departments like internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and traditional Chinese medicine, brought along equipment such as blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, and electrocardiographs to conduct free medical check-ups and offer health consultations for villagers.

Li Shizhao, deputy Party secretary of Yanshi town, noted that the activity is just the beginning. Going forward, Yanshi will strengthen its cooperation with the township central hospital and other medical institutions, increasing the frequency of free clinics and expanding their coverage.

"Through these measures, we can help enhance the sense of gains, happiness and the safety of farmers," he said.
