In East China's Shandong province, farm grower Wu Zhengqian is jubilant with the vibrant growth of his strawberries in greenhouses at grain-producing Juancheng county.

Shuttling through his strawberry bushes in Wuxingyanzhuang village in Jishan town on Feb 24, he used scissors to trim off excess branches and leaves one by one, to help with strawberry growth, increase ventilation and light transmission.

Inside his greenhouse, fresh red and plump strawberries hang on vines, exuding a fruity aroma that makes Wu smile happily.

"It is a bumper harvest season for me," he said, noting that as the town's industry prospers, farmers can become rich steadily.

As temperatures gradually rise after the Beginning of Spring in China's lunar calendar, a bustling scene of harvesting and cultivation unfolds in Juancheng, which administers two sub-districts and 15 towns with a total population of over 923,000.

Deng Zhaopeng, magistrate of Juancheng, said in January that the county plans to increase its regional GDP by some 6.5 percent and elevate the per capita disposable income of all residents by about 7 percent this year. Last year, the county witnessed its regional GDP hit some 31 billion yuan ($4.36 billion) in 2024, an increase of 6.5 percent year-on-year.

In recent years, Jishan town has been developing its industries according to its unique conditions, guiding local farmers to transform traditional agriculture into characteristic agriculture, vigorously bolstering the "greenhouse economy."

This can help empower local rural vitalization, Wu said.
