Beijing police intensified the law enforcement cooperation against telecom and online fraud overseas last year, bringing a total of 127 suspects back to Beijing for further investigation, the Municipal Public Security Bureau said.

The bureau released the data at a press conference on Thursday, one day before the Chinese People's Police Day, which falls every Jan 10, corresponding with the country's emergency call number 110. The establishment of this celebration was approved in 2020 in recognition of the extraordinary work of the nation's public security guardians.

Beijing police revealed that their case-solving rate for the fraud and the number of criminal detentions for suspects in 2024 increased by 26.9 percent and 36.8 percent year-on-year, respectively.

While strengthening the anti-fraud combat, police citywide also made greater efforts to crack down on scalpers last year, contributing to cleaning the tourism environment and maintaining the public order, it added.

Additionally, the capital's police focused more on fighting polluters and those infringing upon intellectual property rights in the past year, with more than 660 criminal cases resolved and over 2,300 suspects detained, it said.

"Both figures were higher than those in 2023, showing our quicker response to public concerns and stronger actions to ensure people's livelihood," said Xie Chenjie, an official from the bureau.

With the Spring Festival holiday approaching, the bureau suggested residents and travelers pay more attention to personal and property safety, adding that their crackdowns on violations and crimes will be intensified during the period.
