联合国教科文组织4月23日在埃塞俄比亚首都亚的斯亚贝巴举行颁奖仪式，授予中国科学家乔杰、埃及科学家法拉杰和希腊科学家斯蒂利亚诺普洛斯三人“联合国教科文组织—赤道几内亚国际生命科学研究奖”，该奖项旨在奖励为提升人类生活质量作出重要贡献的杰出生命科学研究。
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced on April 23 that three scientists from China, Egypt, and Greece won the 2024 UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences. Qiao Jie of China, Mohamed Ali Farag of Egypt, and Triantafyllos Stylianopoulos of Greece received the awards for their outstanding contributions to improving the quality of human life through scientific research at a ceremony held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

“联合国教科文组织—赤道几内亚国际生命科学研究奖”于2008年设立，旨在奖励为提升人类生活质量作出重要贡献的杰出生命科学研究，研究主体可以是个人或机构。该奖项由赤道几内亚共和国政府资助，每年颁发给最多三个获奖者。
联合国教科文组织在其官网公告中表示，作为一名生殖医学专家，乔杰拓展了对生殖生理和不孕疾病背后机制的理解。她带领团队多年来持续探索不孕不育病因和临床诊疗，特别是发现了肠道微生物在女性生殖障碍性疾病中的关键作用。此外，她还致力于同世界各国，特别是发展中国家分享和交流经验，建立共享数据库，推广前沿技术，为人类健康生育福祉作出了重要贡献。

当前，新一轮科技革命和产业变革突飞猛进，学科交叉融合不断发展，科学研究范式发生深刻变革，科学技术和经济社会发展加速渗透融合，基础研究转化周期明显缩短，国际科技竞争向基础前沿前移。应对国际科技竞争、实现高水平自立自强，推动构建新发展格局、实现高质量发展，迫切需要我们加强基础研究，从源头和底层解决关键技术问题。
At present, a new round of sci-tech revolution and industrial transformation is advancing by leaps and bounds, interdisciplinary integration is growing, the paradigm of scientific research is undergoing profound changes, the integration of science and technology with economic and social development is accelerating, the application cycle of basic research is significantly shortened, and international competition in basic research is moving to the forefront. To cope with international sci-tech competition, achieve greater self-reliance, foster a new development pattern, and promote high-quality development, there is an urgent need to strengthen basic research and address key technologies from the source and from the bottom.
