A table tennis match featuring a mix of Chinese and American university players was held on Thursday in Yinchuan city, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, to commemorate the 55th anniversary of China-US Ping-Pong Diplomacy.

The event brought together college table tennis teams from Northwestern United States and eight young Chinese players, celebrating the enduring spirit of cultural exchange through a shared passion for the sport.

The match combined American and Chinese players into teams named "Peace" and "Friendship", with players from both countries teamed up for doubles matches, while they competed against each other in singles matches.

Participants showcased exceptional skills and sportsmanship, earning applause from the audience. As a token of appreciation, all participants received commemorative medals, rather than the traditional gold, silver and bronze medals.

Beyond the competition, the event served as a platform for cultural exchange. Players bridged cultural gaps by sharing technical insights and discussions on their favorite films and stories.

"I'm delighted to have paired with a Chinese student and formed a friendship," said Kevin Ngocchau Nguyen, a student from the University of Portland.

Thomas Richard Becker from the University of Oregon described the event as an amazing experience, saying that he likes playing the sport with Chinese players.

The Chinese players also viewed it as an opportunity for exchange with their American counterparts.

"It is the first time I've attended such a high-level table-tennis competition," said Hu Yongning from Ningxia University. "I found so many common interests with my American counterpart."

Judy Louise Hoarfrost, president and CEO of Paddle Palace Club and member of the 1971 US delegation to China, reflected on the historical significance of the first visit, which laid the groundwork for ongoing exchanges between the two countries.

The American college team will continue their visits around Ningxia, exploring the region's culture, ecological initiatives and industrial development.
