Ningxia students recreate masterpiece with paper-cutting

A group of students in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region has spent two years recreating the ancient masterpiece Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival.

In the summer of 2023, the students began to craft the bustling ancient scenes out of colored paper using scissors.

Guided by their teacher, they progressed from basic cuts to intricate details as they learned about Song Dynasty (960-1279) culture and intangible heritage.

"Recreating a masterpiece through paper-cutting poses a significant challenge for primary school students, yet the perseverance shown by the children is truly moving," said Ma Kuangneng, the students' teacher.
