Beijing Data Group was officially inaugurated on Thursday during the ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services held in Beijing, marking a critical step in constructing national data infrastructure and boosting digital economic development.

The new group, which has a registered capital of 3 billion yuan, is fully owned by the Beijing State-Owned Assets Management Corporation.

Beijing Data Group will lead efforts in digital transformation of government offices and healthcare platforms, managing smart cities, and enhancing the digital business environment.

It will also concentrate on government-enterprise information innovation, smart healthcare, transportation, and education. Its goal is to help build a digital government and support businesses in becoming more intelligent.

During the inauguration ceremony, Xia Linmao, executive vice-mayor of Beijing, said the group should fully leverage the capital's resource advantages, enhance the multiplier effect of data elements, and actively establish a national-level data resource hub to inject fresh momentum into the development of new quality productive forces.

Guo Yonghao, chairman of the Beijing Data Group, said the company will expand into digital and artificial intelligence security while building on its existing digital certification business.

"The group will set up a public data authorization and operation platform to promote the integrated application of public and social data, unlocking greater data value," he said.

The Beijing Data Group owns several member enterprises, including the Beijing Yizhuang Intelligent City Research Institute and the Beijing International Data Exchange.

Mei Hong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Boris Otto, chief scientist of the International Data Spaces Association, delivered speeches on cutting-edge topics including data management needs in the era of ubiquitous connectivity and European models for data space construction, respectively.
