MOSCOW -- A bridge explosion in Russia's Bryansk Oblast on Saturday night caused a passenger train carrying 388 people to derail, resulting in the deaths of seven people, Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said.

The Moscow Railway reported that the locomotive and several cars of passenger train No. 86, en route from Klimov to Moscow, derailed in the Vygonichsky district after a road bridge span collapsed due to "illegal interference in transport activities."

Earlier, Bogomaz reported seven fatalities and 35 injuries, but the number of the injured has since climbed to 66, including three children.
