Beijing sub-district book event celebrates reading traditions

During the weekend's event, Zizhuyuan sub-district unveils its mascot, Zixiaoxi, and the Citywalk cultural map of the area.

Zizhuyuan sub-district in Beijing's Haidian district hosted its first book gathering event over the weekend ahead of World Book and Copyright Day, attracting numerous participants and exploring the charm of traditional reading.

The Zizhuyuan sub-district authority organized the event at the Sanhuqiao Bookstore in collaboration with nearly 60 units and around a hundred volunteers.

During the weekend's event, Zizhuyuan sub-district unveiled its mascot, Zixiaoxi, and the Citywalk cultural map of the area.

Throughout the event, institutions like the Encyclopedia of China Publishing House showcased various books and cultural creations for visitors. Students from assorted schools presented classical dances and traditional folk songs.

Students from Beijing, Hunan, Guangxi, Shandong, and Henan gave a live recitation of Let's Read China Together, which aroused a strong sense of national confidence and pride among the audience.

The Sanhuqiao Bookstore is a vanguard of volunteers in Zizhuyuan sub-district. It hosts activities on special occasions, such as World Book and Copyright Day and traditional Chinese festivals.

Since its opening last year, the Sanhuqiao Bookstore has witnessed over 500 volunteers joining from other districts, including Dongcheng and Shijingshan. They have served over 15,000 residents and received over 10,000 books through the community book drifting initiative.
