A group of Chinese white dolphins was recently spotted frolicking in the waters near the Double Happiness Island in Zhangzhou Development Zone, Zhangzhou, Fujian province.
"There were over 10 dolphins in this group, including a very young calf. I feel so lucky to witness this scene," said Qiu Xiaohua, a local militiawoman who spotted the dolphins while training at the beach.
According to on-site observations, the dolphins exhibited pink, gray and white colors. They sometimes floated and sometimes dove, creating splashes of water.
Chinese white dolphins are a first-class national protected wild animal in China. Their global population is estimated at around 5,000. When fully grown, they display a white or pinkish hue. These dolphins prefer living near shorelines at depths of over 10 meters.
