Researchers have recently announced the discovery of a new plant species, Sedum orientalichinense, in East China's Jiangxi province, enhancing scientific knowledge of the plant kingdom and providing new momentum for biodiversity conservation efforts in the country.
The findings were published on March 14 in the international botanical journal PhytoKeys, marking the first scientific record of this species.

It is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 6-18 centimeters, featuring semi-erect stems with 4-8 nodes and yellow petals. It blooms from June to July.
"This discovery challenges the long-standing misconception in the academic community that this group of plants belonged to a species unique to Japan," said Xiong Yu, a researcher at the nature reserve and co-author of the research paper.
It also underscores the importance of Jiangxi as a region rich in biodiversity, providing essential data for regional biodiversity conservation and taxonomic research, he added.
