Nanchang, the capital of East China's Jiangxi province, experienced a population increase of 102,200 residents last year, achieving the highest growth rate among major cities in the country at 1.56 percent. The city's population reached 6.67 million by the end of 2024, according to data from the Jiangxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics.

Over 10 major cities have released their 2024 population data, with Nanchang, Shenzhen, Hefei and Changsha showing increases of over 100,000 residents.

Over the past decade, Nanchang has consistently seen a population influx, growing from 5.59 million in 2015 to 6.67 million in 2024, with an average annual increase of over 107,000 residents.

A major contributor to the population increase is Nanchang's manufacturing industry, which has consistently generated fresh job opportunities.

Last year, the city's industrial value added for large-scale industries saw double-digit growth for nine consecutive months, ranking Nanchang among the top provincial capitals in China.

Key indicators, such as revenue and profit growth for large enterprises and industrial electricity consumption, have also risen rapidly, placing Nanchang in the top 50 cities for advanced manufacturing.

This industrial expansion has attracted many working-age individuals, with the population aged 16 to 59 reaching 4.55 million in 2024, or 68.2 percent of the total.

In 2024, Nanchang was recognized as a national talent-friendly city and received several accolades for its talent development environment.
