A large-scale greening project in the Xizang autonomous region has successfully created nearly 46,666 hectares of forest, with over 114 million seedlings planted between 2022 and 2024, China News Service reported.
A conference was held recently in Lhasa, the capital of the region, to review the greening efforts in the northern and southern mountains of Lhasa and set goals for 2025.

The green areas around Lhasa and key transportation routes have expanded significantly, contributing to the creation of a forested urban landscape. To support these efforts, 65 nurseries covering over 2,666 hectares have been established, producing about 90 million seedlings of diverse species, including walnut, elm, Chinese pine, apricot, and locust, meeting afforestation needs for 2025.

The region is also building more native nurseries in cities such as Lhokha, Shigatse, and Nyingchi to address the shortage of indigenous tree species.
