JERUSALEM -- United Airlines has resumed flights to Israel after a six-month suspension, becoming the first US carrier to do so.

Flight UA084 departed from Newark Liberty International Airport in New York on Saturday and landed at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv on Sunday. The airline currently operates daily flights on the route, with plans to double the frequency starting March 29.

United Airlines suspended flights to Israel in late July 2024 due to heightened regional tensions.

Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines, another US carrier, is also set to resume direct flights between New York and Tel Aviv, with services restarting on April 1.

For months, only Israeli carriers maintained direct air links between Israel and the United States. El Al was the sole airline operating these routes from August 2024 until last month, when Arkia launched its first-ever direct flights between Tel Aviv and New York.
