An exhibition featuring ancient Greek artifacts opened Monday at the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province. Chengdu is the first stop of the exhibition's China tour.

The four-month-long exhibition features 119 pieces or sets from nine culture and museum institutions in Italy's Puglia region. It includes sculptures, pottery, bronze artifacts and glassware. These artifacts belonged to the ancient Greek civilization from the 6th century BC to the 2nd century AD.

Inspired by ancient Greek temples, the exhibition incorporates the classic Doric and Ionic columns into its design. It is themed around the Greek gods Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Hercules and Dionysus and showcases the daily life, artistic achievements, spiritual beliefs and cultural heritage of the ancient Greeks.

Visitors can see scenes such as Apollo playing the lyre, Demeter teaching humans to plant crops and Athena riding a winged chariot.

The exhibition hall also set up an immersive experience space and interactive installations to showcase the splendid culture and art of ancient Greece.

Fabio Schina, Italian consul general in Chongqing, said the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the profound dialogue between the ancient civilization of the Mediterranean and the millennia-old Chinese culture.

The exhibition is an artistic initiative that fosters dialogue between two civilizations, enriching the understanding of the common roots of human culture and highlighting the importance of art and culture as universal languages that unite people through beauty, knowledge and creativity, he said.
