On Jan 13, at the Zhuji substation in Diankou town, Zhuji, Zhejiang province, two heavy-duty cranes were simultaneously taking part in lifting operations. Maintenance personnel were conducting emergency repairs and replacements on the 500-kilovolt switches in the station to eliminate risks.
Fu Chenkai, the on-site maintenance leader, said: "Due to the high humidity and cleanliness requirements for GIS equipment maintenance and replacement work, we are working overtime to advance important procedures and installing dust-proof sheds to ensure the quality of equipment maintenance, taking advantage of the clear weather during these two days. The aim is to provide reliable power supply for peak winter production and livelihoods".
The Zhuji 500 substation is the sixth 500-kv substation in the Shaoxing area and an important channel for the transmission of ultra-high-voltage electric energy from Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region to Shaoxing, Zhejiang. It meets the electricity demand of Zhuji and Keqiao regions and plays a crucial role in optimizing the power grid structure in the eastern China region.
Chen Xiaopeng, deputy director of the substation maintenance center of State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Company, said: "This project is the first ultra-high-voltage Class II risk operation in Zhejiang since 2025 and the first large-scale maintenance operation at the 500-kv voltage level in Shaoxing this year. The project started on Jan 12 and will continue until Jan 18. After completion, it will effectively enhance the overall power supply of Zhuji substation".
To ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid during the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush, State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Company has completed in advance the deicing rehearsal and testing of transmission lines, inspected safety hazards at 109 key electricity consumption sites in the city, including train stations, commercial complexes and hospitals. It has been implementing 24-hour online monitoring of the equipment at 134 substations throughout the city.
