China warned on Thursday that the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party authorities' attempt to seek "Taiwan independence" will lead nowhere, as the so-called Foreign Minister of Taiwan Lin Chia-lung attended the inauguration ceremony of the president of Palau as a "presidential envoy."

"Taiwan is a province of China, and there is no such thing as a 'president' or a 'foreign ministry' of the Taiwan region," Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday.

There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, he told a regular news conference.

As the one-China principle is the basic norm of international relations and the universal consensus of the international community, Guo emphasized that the Taiwan DPP authorities' attempt to seek "Taiwan independence" and split the country by relying on foreign forces will ultimately be in vain.

While the DPP authorities are busy in consolidating so-called diplomatic ties with other nations, the spokesman said friendly individuals from countries such as Tuvalu, Palau, the Marshall Islands have expressed multiple times to Beijing the willingness to establish or restore normal diplomatic relations with China.

"It is the general trend and shared aspirations for China to establish or resume diplomatic ties with these countries, which is only a matter of time," Guo said.

He reiterated that the friendship is regarded in no particular order. "China is willing to open a new chapter in the development of relations with these countries on the basis of the one-China principle."
