Fu Zhongming began his trip by riding a motorcycle back to his hometown in Tongren of Guizhou province on Tuesday, the day marking the beginning of the annual Spring Festival travel rush.

It will take the 40-year-old migrant worker nearly two days to reach home, from his work place in Foshan, a major manufacturing city in Guangdong province.

"I have been working in a furniture factory in Foshan for more than a decade. But when Spring Festival is around the corner, I usually go back home this way," said Fu.

Riding the motorcycle helps reduce transportation costs and is more convenient, according to Fu.

At the Longshan gas station in Foshan on Tuesday, Fu, together with dozens of motorcyclists, waited for free refueling and received gift bags provided by China Petroleum & Chemical Corp, or Sinopec.

In Guangdong, Sinopec will give out 1,000 "free fuel packages" for motorcyclists returning home during the Spring Festival travel rush. Each package includes a full tank of gas for free, a gift bag by Easy Joy (the retail unit of Sinopec), an accident insurance policy, as well as free EMS delivery for Spring Festival luggage weighing up to 20 kilograms by the Guangdong Branch of China Post.

In the neighboring Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, targeting self-driving and motorcycling travelers returning to Guangxi from the Pearl River Delta and other areas, Sinopec will distribute 2,000 such packages for free at designated locations.

"Taking advantages of our refueling stations, we continuously upgrade our services. We extend our care not only for motorcyclists but all individuals returing home in the five southern provinces and around the country, trying to make the journey home for migrant workers more convenient," said Li Yuxing, vice-president of Sinopec.

Since 2013, Sinopec has been promoting the free refueling initiative for the 13th consecutive year, providing free refueling and convenient rest services for over 4.62 million motorcyclists returning home and 62.6 million travelers during the Spring Festival travel rush.
