China will organize the second State-level rural skills competition in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province. The competition starts from Wednesday and ends on Friday, with the aim to produce more skilled talent for the nation's rural vitalization work.

The competition is jointly held by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Guizhou government.

According to the competition's organizing committee, 11 events — focusing on practical and useful skills at countryside, will be held including bricklaying, vehicle maintenance, hairdressing and nursing services for the elderly. Each event has separate group games for workers and students, and awards one gold medal, two silvers and three bronzes.

The competition will see 701 competitors nationwide, with 381 being males and 320 females. The average age of these competitors is 25.6, with the oldest being 56 and youngest 16.

Wang Xiaojun, an official from the human resources ministry, said at a news conference in Guiyang on Tuesday that the competition aims to attract more public attention to skilled talent production and improve the nation's ability of training skilled people.

She said that the competition will also offer a stage for workers from the countryside to show their talent and calls for more people to make contributions to the nation's rural vitalization work.

China held the first State-level rural skills competition in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in September 2021.
