A 15-year-old male has become the first casualty in the fatal highway collapse incident in Meizhou, Guangdong province to be released from hospital observation on Saturday.
According to a statement released by Meizhou People's Hospital on Saturday, the boy's condition greatly improved after days of treatment and he was discharged from the hospital on Saturday.
The hospital has received a total of 29 casualties, including one seriously injured, after the deadly incident took place on Wednesday.
After receiving hospital treatment, all the patients are in a stable and improving condition, with stable vital signs, local medical experts said.
The incident happened around 2:10 am on Wednesday when a section of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway suddenly collapsed, killing a total of 48 persons and injuring another 30.
Police, firefighters, emergency management personnel and medical staff were immediately sent to the scene to carry out rescue operations after the accident was reported, it said.
