The daily average number of entries and exits at national ports during this year's May Day holiday, which falls from May 1 to May 5, is expected to reach 1.76 million, a 40.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to predictions by the National Immigration Administration issued on Friday.

Major airports, such as Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, are witnessing steady growth in passenger flow.

With the ongoing surge of residents from Hong Kong and Macao traveling to and from the mainland and considering the large-scale performances and fireworks shows scheduled in Hong Kong and Macao during the holiday, the land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao will see a significant increase in clearance traffic, it said.

Shenzhen's Luohu, Futian, and Shenzhen Bay ports are expected to have about 194,000, 191,000, and 130,000 crossings, respectively, while Zhuhai's Gongbei, Qingmao, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge ports are expected to see an average daily entry and exit of 320,000, 110,000, and 110,000 people, respectively.

The NIA recently made arrangements for port border inspection work during the holiday, instructing border inspection agencies nationwide to enhance monitoring of entry and exit flows and port operations and to timely publish the passenger flow data of each port to provide references for the public's travel plans.
