Shanghai welcomed the largest amount of inbound travelers via a single cruise trip as Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas arrived at Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal on Friday morning, official sources said.

Up to 4,000 international travelers came from various countries and regions, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia, and their arrival marked the largest inbound tour group visiting Shanghai ahead of the upcoming May Day holiday, according to information from the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

These travelers were greeted with dragon and lion dances, intangible cultural heritage experiences. Banking and financial organizations, including UnionPay International, set up booths at the arrival area to introduce the payment choices to the passengers during their visit in Shanghai.

Costing $1.25 billion, the 170,000-gross-tonnage Spectrum of the Seas was tailor-made for the China market in 2019, and the vessel can accommodate a maximum of 5,200 guests.

Starting from April 27, Spectrum of the Seas will set sail from Shanghai as its homeport. The vessel will start its maiden voyage from Shanghai with more than 3,700 passengers onboard heading to Fukuoka, Japan.
