China's average life expectancy reached 79 years in 2024, which has increased by 0.4 years from 2023, said Lei Haichao, head of the National Health Commission, at the press conference on people's livelihood held during the third session of the 14th National People's Congress on March 9, 2025.

人均预期寿命是通过统计各个年龄段的死亡率，推算出新生人口平均可以存活的年数。各年龄段的死亡率越低，人均预期寿命就会越高。人均预期寿命是采用寿命表编制方法测算得来的，并不等同于实际的人口平均死亡年龄。不过，由于能够反映某时某地经济社会、生态环境、人口生活方式和卫生健康等综合状况，并可直接进行比较，这一指标在全球得到广泛应用。
2025年3月9日，国家卫生健康委在十四届全国人大三次会议民生主题记者会上透露，根据最新统计结果，2024年中国人均预期寿命达到79岁，比2023年提升0.4岁，在53个中高收入国家中排第4位，提前实现“十四五”规划目标既定努力方向。目前北京、天津、上海、山东、江苏、浙江、广东、海南等八个省市的人均预期寿命已超过80岁。与新中国成立时相比，中国的人均预期寿命翻了不止一番。新中国成立前，人均预期寿命只有大约35岁。据第三次人口普查资料测算，1981年中国人均预期寿命为67.9岁。到1998年，人均预期寿命上升到71岁，已经大大超过了世界平均水平。从2012年至2024年底，10余年间中国人均预期寿命增长了超过3.5岁。

我们深入贯彻以人民为中心的发展思想，在幼有所育、学有所教、劳有所得、病有所医、老有所养、住有所居、弱有所扶上持续用力，人民生活全方位改善。人均预期寿命增长到七十八点二岁。居民人均可支配收入从一万六千五百元增加到三万五千一百元。城镇新增就业年均一千三百万人以上。

We have worked continuously to ensure people's access to childcare, education, employment, medical services, elderly care, housing, and social assistance, thus bringing about an all-around improvement in people's lives. China's life expectancy has reached 78.2 years, its per capita disposable annual income has risen from 16,500 yuan to 35,100 yuan, and more than 13 million urban jobs have been created each year on average over the past 10 years.
人民健康是民族昌盛和国家强盛的重要标志。把保障人民健康放在优先发展的战略位置，完善人民健康促进政策。
People's health is a key indicator of a prosperous nation and a strong country. We must give strategic priority to ensuring the people's health and improve policies on promoting public health.
