Severe torrential rains flooded large parts of Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Monday during the national college entrance examination, known as the gaokao.
Low-lying urban roads were swamped by waist-deep water, halting all vehicle traffic.

As the three-day exam period ran through Tuesday, numerous students became stranded at home or stuck on flooded commutes. With exam start times approaching, anxious students and parents called for emergency assistance.
Local fire and rescue teams deployed fire trucks and inflatable boats, traveling through flooded roadways to deliver exam-takers to testing sites safely and on time.
