An old saying proclaims: "There is a city of Pingliang, and half a history of the Silk Road". It comes alive inside the Pingliang City Museum, a key cultural landmark in eastern Gansu province, located in the heart of the Loess Plateau.

Since ancient times, Pingliang served as a strategic gateway west of Chang'an and an important hub on the eastern Silk Road. It is often referred to as "the first city west of Chang'an." Its unique geography made it a key meeting point where Chinese civilization and Western cultures converged and evolved over centuries.

On International Museum Day, China Daily takes you inside the museum's collection of more than 22,000 artifacts, which reflect both daily life and cultural exchange along ancient trade routes. Each object preserved here is part of a larger story across millennia.

Join our livestream at 3 pm on Monday, May 18, and step into a time capsule where the Silk Road's history comes vividly alive.
