Shelters for residents displaced by floods in Beijing's Miyun district have been offering moments of light relief through cultural activities.
The district, hit hard by torrential rains since late July, has set up 131 relocation sites, moving a total of 14,614 people from 19 towns and 193 villages as of Thursday. Of these, 5,031 have been moved to centralized shelters, according to the local authority.
At each site, temporary Party branches have been established to organize and oversee various activities and ensure proper management. Residents have been able to take part in a range of cultural and sporting events, including film screenings, workshops on intangible cultural heritage, handicraft sessions, and Baduanjin, a traditional form of breathing and stretching exercise.
These initiatives aim to provide a rich and varied spiritual and cultural life, helping those affected to feel safe and supported during a difficult time, officials said.
