WASHINGTON -- US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that "hopefully Russia will agree to" a 30-day ceasefire after a high-level meeting between US and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia's Red Sea port city, US news outlets reported.

Trump briefly addressed the 30-day ceasefire announcement outside the White House, telling reporters that "Ukraine has agreed to it and hopefully Russia will agree to it," NBC News reported.

When asked whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be invited back to the White House, Trump responded: "Sure, absolutely."

The Politico also reported that Trump said of the ceasefire proposal at an event at the White House to promote Tesla cars.

"I'll talk to Vladimir Putin," Trump said, adding that "It takes two to tango," according to the report.

The Trump administration had announced a suspension of weapon deliveries to Ukraine and halted intelligence sharing after a heated Oval Office meeting with Zelensky more than a week ago.

Washington has agreed to "immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine," according to a joint statement issued after the meeting of the Ukrainian and US delegations in Jeddah.
