The 2025 World Laureates Association Prize (WLA Prize) opened its nomination process on Saturday, and the nomination period will run until June 15, according to WLA.

Established in Shanghai in 2021, the WLA Prize is an international science prize initiated by the WLA, managed by the WLA Foundation, and exclusively funded by the venture capital firm HongShan.

It aims to recognize and support eminent researchers and technologists who have made significant contributions but have not yet received international recognition. It is intended to support global science and technology advancement, address challenges to humanity and promote society's long-term progress.

It is awarded in two categories: computer science or mathematics, and life science or medicine. The total award for each prize, which may be divided among up to four laureates, is 10 million yuan ($1.37 million).

WLA said the prize selection committee and awards committee, comprising Nobel, Turing and Lasker laureates, will evaluate nominations, with final decisions made by the management committee.

To date, the WLA Prize has been awarded for three consecutive years and honored a total of nine outstanding scientists.
