China has seen a significant rise in the prosecution of securities-related crimes in the past three years, demonstrating its strengthened efforts to ensure the high-quality development of the capital market, according to the country's top procuratorate.
The Supreme People's Procuratorate released data on Friday showing that from 2022 to 2024 a total of 1,011 people were prosecuted for crimes involving securities, with an average annual increase of 16 percent.
The crimes included financial fraud, fraudulent issuance, non-compliant disclosures, insider trading and market manipulation, the SPP said, adding that the crackdown also involved key figures such as actual controllers, chairpersons, executives of listed companies, as well as financial institution practitioners, intermediary organizations and those who illegally obtained insider information.
Additionally, between 2022 and 2024, Chinese prosecutors tackled 598 cases related to private equity, resulting in 2,805 indictments, according to the data.
The prosecution targeted illegal fundraising under the guise of private equity, misappropriation and embezzlement of private equity assets, insider trading and market manipulation within the sector. The SPP stressed that these actions are essential in regulating the industry, promoting its healthy development of the industry, and providing legal support and protection for the real economy.
